Professor Desabandu Jeeva Niriella is a seasoned academic and legal practitioner with over 27 years of experience in higher education and more than 22 years as an attorney-at-law. She currently heads the Department of Public and International Law at the University of Colombo's Faculty of Law. Over the years, she has served as a member of various executive committees, demonstrating a deep commitment to institutional leadership and governance for 14 years.
A recognized authority in media, public, and international law, Prof. Niriella regularly delivers keynote speeches at global seminars. In June 2022, under her keynote on “Media Freedom, Law and Human Rights,” a distinguished audience of academics, law students, and journalism professionals at the Kerala Law Academy Law College gained valuable insights. She also recently served as the chief guest at the 14th Asian Criminology Conference in Sri Lanka in October 2023.
Beyond academia, she has contributed her expertise to public discourse. In March of a previous year, he spoke about protecting children’s rights at a program organized by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
